Real Wedding: A Gorgeous Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in London
Lucinda wore an elegant David Fielden wedding dress with dainty capped sleeves and a daring low-cut neckline, while Simon was dapper in a tailor-made blue wedding suit.
As the couple met on the tennis courts, there were nods to the sport dotted about their day, from unique favours to the table plan that looked like the order of play sign at Wimbledon.

How they met
Simon and Lucinda met at university on the tennis court; Lucinda was president of the tennis club and selected Simon for the team.

"Lucinda pretends she doesn't remember when we first met, but I like to think her selecting me for the tennis team was a message in disguise," jokes Simon.

Their initial meeting place was reflected in their theme for the day, with tennis inspired touches throughout their venue - read on to see!

Simon proposed on holiday in Lake Como, taking Lucinda completely by surprise.
The London wedding venue
Lucinda and Simon wanted there to be a contrast between their ceremony and reception venues, so opted to hold their ceremony at The Pergola and Hill Garden, Hampstead and their reception at Loft Studios.

"It took us some time to find the venues; it was only after visiting a variety of different venues that we found those most true to us and our style. When you know you know," explains Simon.

"We fell in love with The Pergola and Hill Garden; Hampstead is one of our favourite areas of London," says Lucinda.

"Loft Studios is a blank canvas we could decorate as we liked. Both venues had a relaxed feel to them."

READ MORE: The best London wedding venues
"Having an outdoor wedding ceremony was obviously risky thanks to the British weather, but we fell in love with the secluded, leafy venue," shares Lucinda.

"It was so beautiful that no extra decorations were needed."

"We found it difficult to choose readings for the ceremony and eventually decided to write our own poems, which were read out by Simon's brother and my friend. We kept them light-hearted and relaxed," shares Lucinda.

"Music is very important to us, so we created a ceremony playlist for when guests were enjoying the grounds," says Simon.

If you're stuck for what music to play at your ceremony, check out our article on the ultimate wedding playlists for your ceremony.
Lucinda and Simon decided to avoid having a set colour scheme, and instead decorated their long trestle tables with flowers and tea lights, for a relaxed vibe.

They had very original wedding name cards, with each guest's name being written on a tennis ball, carefully cut in half by Lucinda's dad.

The places names doubled up as favours, with a USB inside with a playlist of wedding music on it.

"We hoped people would enjoy the music and that it might even bring back memories of the day. The USB was shaped liked a pill as a nod to our medical professions," explains Lucinda.
The wedding dress
Lucinda wore a David Fielden wedding dress, purchased from Angelica Bridal in Angel, London.

"I wasn't sure about the dress as first, as it is quite daring, but my mum knew it was the one instantly," shares Lucinda.

"I tried on five or six other dresses and kept comparing them to the first one, so that decided it for me. Turns out mum knows best!"

"The dress has a plunging neckline, with delicate cap sleeves and a small train. I'd describe it as modern in style with a nod to vintage."

Lucinda also wore a long, simple veil by Pronovias.

The groom's suit
Simon wore a blue wedding suit with a contrasting yellow and grey waistcoat, made to order from Stafford Tailoring.

"I was pushing the boat out with a tailor made suit, so I wanted to make sure it was something I would wear again, so I had a modern cut rather than a traditional morning suit," shares Simon.

"I didn't fancy a traditional button hole flower so I had a lapel pin with a photo of Lucinda printed inside. I also got my dad and brother similar pins with their respective partners in."

If your groom isn't keen on a classic button hole either, show him our unusual buttonhole ideas for inspiration.

The blue bridesmaid dresses
Lucinda's bridesmaids live all over the world, so she bought their blue bridesmaid dresses online from Joanna August, opting for soft blue chiffon dresses in differing styles.

Just seen in this photo are Lucinda's amazing Valentino shoes, which were a wedding gift from her brother.
Unusual wedding entertainment
"We had two graffiti artists from Graffiti Life working on large portraits of Simon and I in the courtyard at our reception," says Lucinda

"Loft Studios had some graffiti work on one of their walls in the courtyard that was unfortunately painted over before our wedding. We were really disappointed initially, because the art work on the wall was one of the major selling points of the venue for us. However, this gave us the idea to have some live art during the reception drinks, in a similar style, which provided some entertainment, as well as a unique momento from the day. A bit egotistical, maybe, but hey, it was our wedding day!"

READ MORE: Unusual wedding entertainment ideas

The naked wedding cake
Lucinda's mum made the four-tier naked wedding cake, despite one of her ovens breaking down on the week of the wedding.

"Each tier was a different flavour," reveals Lucinda.

"The bottom tier was an Indonesian ‘layer cake’, the second was a pandan and coconut jam sponge cake, the third was an orange spice cake and the top was a gluten-free coconut and almond cake. It was decorated with fresh flowers and fruit and our cake toppers were mini figurines of Johnny Bravo and Mulan."

READ MORE: The best wedding cake toppers
Advice for other couples
"Plan something relaxing the day after to recover," advises Lucinda.

"My girlfriends organised a picnic on Hampstead Heath for the morning after, which was just what we needed and it was lovely to spend more time with the guests visiting from abroad before e went on our honeymoon."
