This wedding guest was left homeless after spending £13,000 attending weddings

Attending 14 weddings in four years left this woman in debt

We all know weddings are expensive; not just for the bride and groom, but for guests too. From destination hen dos to finding a new wedding guest outfit, they’re a costly celebration.

With everything adding up to be so spenny, it comes as no surprise that serial wedding guest Georgina Childs found herself in debt after attending 14 weddings in 4 years.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, Georgina explained how she got herself into the predicament.

“At the beginning of last year, the invites started coming through thick and fast and when you get the invite you want to book the accommodation. But you haven’t budgeted for an accommodation bill for that month or that year, so it’s easy to find yourself thinking ‘oh, I’ll put that on a credit card’.”

The cost of celebrating her friends’ nuptials soon added up, with Georgina shelling out £13,000 on the celebrations.

“I was living away from home and I got to a point where I thought, ‘if I want to keep going to these weddings, and seeing my friends walk down the aisle, then something has to give,’” she said.

“That was the thing that made me decide to [sell my flat and] move back to my parent’s house.”

“It’s easy to say that [I should turn them down],” she said, “but it’s not as easy to turn down an invite.”

How far would you go to attend the weddings of your friends? Would you make major lifestyle changes to be there with them, or explain you simply can’t afford to attend, and polite decline?

Watch Georgina talk about her experience below.

Sorry but that's a load of cr*p - I can't believe this woman is getting airtime, and probably money, for sharing her 'story'!

1) noone made her go to all those weddings

2) noone made her spend as much as she did

3) her financial irresponsibility is her own fault, noone else's

4) selling a flat, putting a lump sum of cash in the bank and moving back in with mum & dad doesn't make a person broke or 'homeless'

Sorry, call me heartless, but it would NOT be finding it hard to say no, faced between the choice of going broke and moving back home or attending a bunch of weddings! This girl made fiscally irresponsible choices and is basically putting it on the brides and grooms whose wedding she shouldn't have attended. It's no different than getting a credit card offer in the mail: just because they are inviting you to get credit, doesn't mean you should!
