Real Wedding: A colourful winter wedding in South Africa
The couple opted for a bold and colourful palette of rich winter shades, including teal and burgundy, which worked perfectly with the dramatic floral arrangements they decorated their venue with.
Lizel wore the wedding dress of her dreams, complete with long lace sleeves and a delicate open back.

The South African wedding venue
Willem and Lizel were both born in South Africa, so marrying in their native country was a natural choice.

They held their wedding at NEO Venue at Kleinevalleij Estate in Wellington, choosing it due to the option to have either an indoor or outdoor ceremony, and the white floors and walls, which made it a blank canvas for any kind of decor.
The wedding colour scheme
Willem and Lizel took full advantage of the white space, dressing it with bright, vibrant wedding flowers, and rich colours such as burgundy and teal, inspired by the art of the Dutch paint masters of the 17th and 18th century.

Wedding table decorations
Their table numbers were set among more bold colours, which made up the theme for the day.

"I found it hard to decide on a theme and colour scheme as I love so many different styles," says Lizel.

"I knew I wanted it to be rich with colours and a reflection of who we are as a couple."
Hanging floral decorations
Lizel and Willem embraced one of this year's biggest wedding trends; hanging floral decorations, which cascaded down from the ceiling above their reception room.
The DIY wedding table plan
"I made a wooden frame with a burgundy velvet backdrop, and glued the table plans to it," explains Lizel.

"I drilled holes in the frame and hung it up with knotted rope, and our florist Syliva from Special Events decorated it with fresh flowers."

READ MORE: Real couples' table plans

The long-sleeved wedding dress
"I dreamt of a wedding dress with long lace sleeves, but had no idea if it would suit me," said Lizel.

"I tried on various dress styles, but when I finally put on the Annocha dress by Anna Georgina, I completely fell in love with the soft silk, the open back and the beautiful long sleeves."

READ MORE: Delightful Wedding Dresses with Sleeves

The backless wedding dress
"At first I thought I wanted a fairy-tale princess wedding dress with a wide skirt as it's the one day in your life you can get away with that style, but after falling in love with my dress I realised it suited my personal style more, as well as the style of wedding we were having," explains Lizel.
The most romantic moment
"I loved that I knew I was marrying the right man," shares Lizel. "We married quite late in life, but I am so glad I waited and found my perfect match."

"I will never forget the moment we exchanged our vows. It was loaded with so much honesty, love and sincerity - exactly how I dreamt it would be."
Wedding budget tips
"Decide together on what you both want most for the day," advises Lizel.

"We wanted to have really good food and wine, so we didn't compromise on this, and in exchange we cut out things like a traditional wedding cake and having a bridal party."

"Don't compromise on the photographer; you won't regret making use of the best one you can afford."
