Harry and Meghan's Engagement: what we know so far

Here's the low down on the most exciting engagement of 2017

Meghan Markle and Price Harry have only just announced their engagement, and we've already been bombarded with information. We've rounded up everything we know so far, in one handy package.

The happy couple

First things first, the happy couple got engaged earlier this month, in London.

The proposal

Harry asked the permission of Meghan's parents before getting down on one knee, and while details of the proposal are far and few between, Harry said it was a romantic proposal, and that he popped the question while the pair were making roast chicken. "She didn't even let me finish. She said, 'Can I say yes?'" revealed Harry in a BBC interview.

The ring

Kensington Palace said the prince designed the engagement ring himself - using two stones which belong to his late mother, Princess Diana.

The diamond in the middle is from Botswana, a country that Harry holds dear, and has visited many times since he was a child.

The wedding

Again, details are quite secret at this stage, but we do know it'll be in spring of 2018... not long to wait!

We do wonder, will the pair follow British or American wedding traditions? There are some strict royal wedding traditions they'll have to follow, for example Harry will have to wear military attire.

The dress

As soon as the news was out, we began speculating over what kind of wedding dress Meghan will wear, and upon seeing what Meghan wore as a bridesmaid last year we're imagining the future princess in a slinky number, rather than a full princess style like Kate Middleton wore.

The announcement

Meghan and Harry took to the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace for their announcement, during which Harry said he knew Meghan was "the one" as soon as he met her, and commented that he is "thrilled" at their engagement, while Meghan said she is "very happy" - no less than we'd expect!

Meghan was wearing a white coat by Canadian brand Line the Label, and a black dress by P.A.R.O.S.H. - it seems like Meghan will be having the same effect on fashion as Kate Middleton has had - since the announcement aired, the website has crashed!

The day off

Speculation was rife on social media that the UK would get a bank holiday on the day the couple get married. Downing Street have since said there are currently "no plans" to give the country the day off. Boo.

Stand by for further updates on the wedding news of the year!
