Minimoon review: Chia Laguna, Sardinia

Y&YW's Hannah Davies discovers this famously beautiful Italian island, home to gorgeous beaches, breathtaking views and, of course, wonderful food and wine

We flew into Sardinia on a beautifully sunny day. Our destination was Chia Laguna, a resort made up of four different hotels, each with its own unique character. We were staying at Hotel Laguna, an elegant property with stunning views.

Our spacious room was in the elegant Hotel Laguna, and had an ultra-comfy bed, gorgeous Mediterranean-chic décor, and a delightful terrace with a view of the pink flamingo-dotted lagoon that gives the resort its name.

It was tempting to take up a permanent position by one of the hotel's beautiful pools.

However, we made the effort to venture out in search of sand, as stunning beaches are one of Sardinia’s main attractions. Thankfully, Chia Laguna is located right near one of the best: Campana Dune. No picture can really do it justice – you just have to see the shimmering waters and feel the soft white sand for yourself to truly experience its wonderful beauty.

Being beach-side doesn’t necessarily mean lazing around all day – we quickly discovered that there were plenty of watersport options to try, from kayaking to surfing lessons. The resort also has lots of non-aquatic ways to explore the area, such as horse riding, mountain- biking and jeep tours.

That said, we did actually spend a lot of our time blissed out on loungers in Chia Laguna’s VIP area at Campana Dune – along with time in the resort’s divine spa. One morning, we stirred ourselves for a boat trip, with plenty of opportunities to jump into the crystal-clear waters to swim and snorkel. And then we went back to our loungers for some more sun-drenched snoozing.

As you’d expect from an Italian island, all the food, without exception, was ridiculously delicious. We particularly enjoyed sipping champagne in Bar Bollicine on a balmy night before a fresh and exquisite dinner at La Terrazza restaurant – with generous amounts of Italian wine, of course.
