Hunting for the right bridesmaid dresses

Hi all

I'm on the quest for the right bridesmaid dresses - one of the major problems so far with lots that we've looked at is that they are not bra-compatible! Looking for something full-length, ideally not more than £150, and I'm fairly flexible on colour. Have looked at all the usual high street places (I think) but can't quite find anything that suits.

I'm wearing a non-traditional dress (it's blush pink/peach with heavy embroidery) so don't want anything that either competes with it or looks too similar. I have just the two bridesmaids so I didn't think it'd be this hard!

Any advice on where to look or where you found your bridesmaid dresses would be fantastic.

Thanks :)

Bridezilla

What colours are you looking for? :) I know you said you're fairly flexible but if you have a few ideas in mind, it narrows down your search so you're not left with too many options. I got mine from Quiz and they're great - bra-compatible and elasticated at the back so they're really comfy.

And out of pure nosiness, what's your wedding dress?! Sounds beautiful.

I'm really open on the colours - the flowers are going to be bright colours: orange, pink, purple, yellow, blue and a hint of bright green foliage. I had wanted the bridesmaid dresses to be bright (possible even patterned) to match but I think my dress is too delicate for that. It's: https://www.needleandthread.com/uk/all-wedding/bride/trailing-tiered-gown.

My bridesmaids' favourite colours are orange and yellow, so like a lemon yellow might work? Or maybe pale grey to pick up some colours in my dress and make the flowers pop?

Sorry can't help with bridesmaids dresses as I've not got ours!! But your dress is beautiful!

Hello. Your dress is a bit like mine - blush pink with lots of embroidery, although mine is a ballgown! As our wedding colours are pale pinks and greys, I went with pale grey for my ladies. We bought multi-way dresses from M&S which cost £55 each. They are full length, but the top can be changed to suit the figure of the bridesmaid, and they came in a multitude of colours. I've also added sparkly belts just to give them that something extra. You could go with the grey and then add coloured extras, like belts of cardigans, to match the flowers.

Ooh I love Needle and Thread dresses, yours is beautiful 😍!! I have one for my evening dress, the Marie (no longer online, got it in the sale). I'll keep an eye out for bridesmaids dresses that could work! Have you thought about ivory or something similar? Or other pastel colours could work- a mint or pale blue or something could be pretty? Or a more intense version of your colour.

Don't know if any of those are anything like what you'd have in mind, just knew of them because I've been looking for dresses that one of my bridesmaids would like :)

Hi Celica, thank you SO much for all of these wonderful suggestions - I think there are a couple in there that might just work. Needle & Thread dresses are so dreamy, I just fell for this one when I saw it (and had hated 99% of the boutique ones I'd tried on lol) x

Glad I could help! I have 8 bridesmaids and they're all choosing their own so I've been doing a lot of browsing and suggesting if I see a good deal so I have got to know some of the dress sites pretty well hehe.

I have been obsessed with N&T for years, and I have a very traditional big ballgown for the ceremony (I was NOT expecting to choose something traditional), but then it was so hot this August that I thought sleeves all day might be a nightmare next summer and so I had a look on the website and one of my favourite ones was half price so I immediately ordered it . If I won the lottery I think I'd own everything they've ever made..

Yours is really special, I'm super jealous and excited to see how your day turns out :)

Thank you so much! I don't have a planning thread yet, I think I'm keeping things quite low-key compared to how much effort some brides here are putting in, but I might start one if I find myself at a loose end  x

I can’t recommend ASOS enough, I got my bridesmaid dresses from there and so did my MofH.  I’ve just had a quick browse And thought this might compliment your dress well:

LOVE this from ASOS!

Maya also have some lovely dresses on there, they have a lemon one if a few different but coordinating styles. Don’t be too put off by maternity sizes too, I couldn’t get the dresses I wanted in the standard size, so bought the mat dresses a size down and all I need to do is take the length up a little.

There are loads I liked on Asos too but couldn't find quite the right one... My BMs ordered this Maya one https://www.asos.com/maya/maya-embellished-tulle-sleeve-midi-tulle-dress-in-green/prd/9787910?clr=green-lily&SearchQuery=maya%20dress&gridcolumn=4&gridrow=1&gridsize=4&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=131, both in the different lengths, but they weren't happy with the fit which was a real shame. The lemon yellow Maya ones are lovely but I'm not sure how happy they'll be if we try a maternity fit!

They're going to order this one from M&S https://www.marksandspencer.com/multiway-slip-dress/p/p60115917?image=SD_01_T42_6460C_KU_X_EC_90&color=SILVERGREY&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect for them both to try - my flower colours are all brights (orange, yellow, pink, red) so, with the right accessories, this dress could really pop. x

I love the green dress that you looked at, what a shame it wasn’t right. I was worried my BM’s would be offended by wearing maternity dresses, but I loved the dresses so much it was worth a try. They’re both size 8 normally but the size 6 mat fits them on the body great (from the waist down it’s loose anyway so no adjustments).  If you really like the dress I’d say go for it in the size down, what’s the worst that can happen?!
